I was not prepared for this to be so damn good…
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know about The Hunger Games Trilogy. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a prequel that takes place roughly 65 years beforehand. Its main character is a young Coriolanus Snow. If that name sounds familiar, it should. Coriolanus Snow is the villainous tyrant President of Panam in The Hunger Games. Here we discover his backstory.
While it was easy to root for Katniss Everdeen, the heroine of the trilogy, I found it much more difficult to root for Coriolanus. There were moments I loved him and moments I wanted to scream at him. It’s the main reason why I enjoyed it so much. It felt like a bit of a character study to me. One that had themes of deception, ruthlessness, violence, and teenage love.
If you didn’t enjoy The Hunger Games, there isn’t much here that would change your mind or be worth your time. If you were a fan of the trilogy, I can’t imagine you passing on this gem. It’s one of my favorites for 2020.

I saw this on sale the other day and I remember thinking it looked like a knock off of the hunger games 😂 I didn’t make the connection to it being a sequal.
